Overview
Before sunsetting any servers, evaluate the full network of 14 game servers against a consistent set of criteria. The goal is to make deliberate, documented decisions about which servers to keep, which to sunset, and which to potentially replace with something better.
This evaluation feeds directly into two downstream tasks:
- Server Sunset & World Archive — backup worlds, host on NextCloud, publish download links on Ghost
- Server Network Refresh — any new servers to replace sunset ones

Evaluation Criteria
Score each server 1-5 on each criterion. Total score out of 25.
1. Player Activity
- 5 = Active players regularly
- 3 = Occasional players
- 1 = No players / unknown
2. Modpack Health
- 5 = Actively maintained, recent updates
- 3 = Stable but no recent updates
- 1 = Abandoned / unmaintained modpack
3. Strategic Fit
- 5 = Core to Firefrost identity / Fire or Frost path
- 3 = Good fit, not essential
- 1 = Doesn't fit current direction
4. Resource Usage
- 5 = Lightweight, efficient
- 3 = Moderate resource use
- 1 = Heavy resources for low return
5. Community Interest
- 5 = Players have asked about it / mentioned it
- 3 = Neutral
- 1 = No interest shown

Decision Categories
Keep — Active, healthy, good fit. No action needed.
Monitor — Low activity but worth keeping short-term. Review again in 30 days.
Sunset — Low scores across the board. Archive world, notify players, shut down.
Replace — Server concept is good but modpack needs swapping. Plan replacement before sunsetting.
Pre-Known Decisions
Based on existing documentation:
- Homestead — Previously flagged for retirement in infrastructure manifest
- Hytale — Placeholder server, game not released, likely sunset candidate
- FoundryVTT — Not a Minecraft server, evaluate separately from the Minecraft network
Output
After evaluation, produce:
- Sunset list — servers confirmed for shutdown with target dates
- Keep list — servers confirmed healthy
- Watch list — servers to monitor with review date
- Replacement ideas — any new modpacks to consider
This output feeds directly into the Server Sunset & World Archive task.
